Is Veganuary the new January?
Now we’ve said goodbye to 2019 and entered into a new month, year and decade! It’s a time when many of use reflect on the past and look at what we’d like to achieve and change going forwards.
With this in mind it appears that many people have made changes to their current lifestyles by becoming vegan for the month of January – hence the very popular Veganuary! Which was actually co-created by Jane Land from York. The popularity of Veganuary has increased massively over the last 6 years, initially starting out with just 3,300 participants in 2014, it rocketed to over 250,000 in 2019, could 2020 be its biggest year yet?
The NCA’s own Sally Duffin – Nutrition Assistant Course Director and Clinic Supervisor, who also runs Nutrition in York, featured on BBC Radio York’s breakfast show with some key nutritional advice for those who are thinking of becoming vegan. A common myth appears to be that vegans are healthier, but as Sally rightly points out that isn’t always the case, it’s all about planning, organising and ensuring you get the right vitamins and minerals you need and eating real food.
