A search on Google led to a life change with acupuncture
We’ve all done it…..feeling unfulfilled and searching on google to find some answers! This was exactly the case for Melanie Bryan, her googling led her to the NCA. Our acupuncture course ticked all the boxes and now she is a successful practitioner about to expand her business, but what prompted that google search?….
After working as a Reflexologist and Massage Therapist for 8 years I started pondering my future and the longevity of treating people with massage and reflexology. I started wondering what I could do to progress and make a career without burning myself out but still helping people. I googled “acupuncture” and the NCA came up. The content of the course ticked all the boxes, so I applied and that was the start of my acupuncture journey!
I class myself as a practical person, and I was worried I would find the academic side of my degree a struggle. However, I found myself progressing well every year with the help and support from the college and friends. I was self-employed which meant I could juggle my patients to fit in with my studies and clinic days. My time studying with the NCA gave me firm roots within this immense subject, and at the end of my training I felt confident to branch off knowing I have this grounded knowledge with traditional Chinese medicine.
Three years on, and during the lockdown I have moved from Nuffield Health Centre and Orchard Barn to set up myself at The Louis Pearlman Centre in Hull. I work four days, two late nights and one Saturday out of the month which suits my lifestyle.
During the lockdowns I was only able to treat with acupuncture and this confirmed treating with needles (a little bodywork if needed) alone is the way I want to move forward. Now I am thinking of renting another room and hopefully with the kickstart scheme train two apprentices to become a massage therapist and reflexologist to expand my clinic and still be able to offer patients massage and reflexology.
Overall, I think the pandemic has given more time for people to think about their health and wellbeing and are seeking more natural ways to help themselves and the NCA training has equipped me to do this. I have never been busier!
For the future and I want to study herbs as I think it will give an extra depth to what we do and I want to train with the NCA as I know the training is credible.
I still feel I made the right choice studying at the NCA and will always be grateful that I googled acupuncture and started on my journey with the NCA.
