FOOD FOR THOUGHT? NUTRITION GRADUATE TAKES KNOWLEDGE TO NEW LEVEL

Looking back, Shakela Shan (pictured at her graduation, alongside her family) always had a passion for nutrition. The youngest of seven children, Shakela recalls preparing simple wholesome foods at family meal times, and even making sure her toys were well nourished during childhood games!  But, it was having her young son diagnosed with respiratory problems that really inspired the mum of three to investigate the correlation between our health and what we eat and digest.

After switching careers from teaching to working as a nutritional adviser, Shakela – from North Leeds – soon realised that to fully maximise the help she could offer to clients, she needed to broaden her nutrition knowledge.  Now, two years after enrolling on the NCA’s MSc in Nutritional Science and Practice course, graduate Shakela has her own fledgling practice and says succeeding in her studies has also proved inspirational to her family.
